I’ll admit, when I signed up for this challenge, I wasn’t expecting to learn a lot of new stuff. When I saw WorldCat was on the menu I was like, “Eh, I’ve seen it. Whatevs.” But then I started to play around with it and realized that the Web Things folks were brilliant to include it. I had never really thought to use it, rather than something like Amazon, for helping patrons with ILL requests. The information I need to fill out the slip is all much easier to find on WorldCat, and I can combine the Looking Up ILL Info and Looking To See If Monmounth County Has It steps of filling out a request slip. Sweet!
I knew that WorldCat showed what libraries held what copies, but I didn’t know about all the other bells and whistles, like descriptions, reveiws, limiting searches just to large print (something I’m really excited for) and even reading excerpts!
Thanks, Web Things, for teaching me something new! When I look at that brand new Wii sitting in my living room, I’ll think of WorldCat. Because I’m sooo winning that Wii.
hooray for learning! And you know, I was the same way about worldcat, but I think it would definitely come in handy for those pesky ILL forms. Can I live vicariously through you if/when you win the Wii?
